Eco-epidemiology of leptospires endemic to Indian Ocean
Acronyme: ECOSPIR

Financement : Feder Interreg

Abstract.

Leptospirosis is a problem of major heath concern on the islands of Indian Ocean. Our previous studies, carried out under a One Health framework, have revealed that each island of the region hosts specific transmission chains, composed of distinct Leptospira species/lineages and animal reservoirs. ECOSPIR project will (i) gather microbial data on territories and animal species that have been thus far insufficiently explored, (ii) decipher temporal and geographic transmission dynamics using a bat-borne Leptospira as a model and (iii) develop genomics and experimental approaches to highlight determinants of virulence and host-specificity. Produced data will allow disentangling biotic and abiotic conditions that favor the transmission of pathogenic Leptospira to humans.
